(Quercus rubra)
Native to the temperate forests of the northern hemisphere, its heartwood ranges from pale pink to dark reddish brown. Its grain is open and rough, with numerous porous areas. Red oak is prized for making furniture, flooring, moulding and coffins, as well as for architectural woodwork.
